I want to import a car, what do I
have to look for?
You can only import an automobile under certain
restrictions. Does your vehicle comply with Department of Transportation
(D.O.T.) and Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) standards? It is
unlikely that a vehicle obtained abroad meets all relevant standards. These
vehicles can not be imported, without being converted.
Some exemptions are:
Cars imported by tourists (nonresidents.!) for
personal use not exceeding one year. The vehicle must be exported at the
end of that year.
Cars that are older than 25 years.
To find out more about conversions and to find
companies that offer such services visit the NHTSA
- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

For gross cargo weight: 36,000 lbs for 20’
